ČESKÝ LEV



"ČESKÝ LEV" is an award, which is given for movie achievements. It is a crystal statue of lion. "ČESKÝ LEV" is highest award in Czech Republic and it was founded in 1993. 


Movies are rated in a few different categories by "ČFTA"."ČFTA" is a Czech filming and television Academy - corporation of actors, moviemakers and critics, which wants to control and support prestige of Czech movies. 

Before the awards ceremony, movies are nominated and chosen to this ceremony. Movies have to be published in the year before the ceremony and at least co-produced by a Czech film studio.
The awards ceremony takes places in State opera and It is usually in the beginning of the year.
Awards are given in categories like:

  • Best Director
  • Best Screenplay
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Music
  • Best Editing
  • Best Sound
  • Best Actor in Leading Role
  • Best Actress in Leading Role
  • Best Supporting Actor
  • Best Supporting Actress
  • Best Artistic Contribution to Czech Cinema
  • Most Popular Film
  • Best Documentary
  • Best Film Poster
  • The Magnesie Award for Best Foreign Film
  • The Sazka Award for Best Unseen Screenplay
  • The Film Critics' Award
  • The Premiere Readers' Award
  • The Stuffed Lion for the Worst Film

Some actors are more successful than other, for example Ivan Trojan and Anna Gaislerová – who have five awards.


 In recent years The Best Film category have won Ve stínu, Poupata, Pouta, Protekor, Karamazovi, Tajnosti, Štěstí, ect.
